2020 Snohomish County Budget

On September 24th Executive Dave Somers presented his 2020 budget to the Council.  We currently have council staff reviewing the budget and next week county departments will present their priorities to Council during a series of public meetings.  We will also be holding a series of public hearings on the budget on the following dates - Monday, October 7th at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 23rd at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 30th at 9 a.m.  If you have comments on the budget I invite you to come out to one of our hearings and share your input. These hearings will be held in the Henry M. Jackson Board Room, 8th Floor, Robert J. Drewel Building (Administration Building East), 3000 Rockefeller Ave. in Everett.  I will keep you updated on the status of the budget as we move forward.

WATV

WATV Map of Snohomish County

Council passed an updated WATV Ordinance that will go into effect on October 4th, 2019.  This will open up a significant amount of county roads to legal WATV use.  Below is a map of the WATV roads. For more detailed information you can go to the County Council website. This is important legislation for East County. Every city in district five passed a WATV ordinance allowing these vehicles on city roads (Gold Bar, Lake Stevens, Monroe, Snohomish and Sultan).  By expanding access on our county roads we have provided vital connections to increase tourism opportunities.

Small Capital Projects Partnership

The Monroe Park’s Department and the Boys and Girls Club completed phase two of the installation of exercise equipment at Sky River Park.  Through the Snohomish County Small Capital Partners Projects Monroe was awarded $5,600.00 for phase one of the project and $6,700.00 for phase two.  It was great to come out and see this project in its completion!  This program benefits many of our cities and schools throughout the county.  In 2018 the following amounts were awarded to organizations in East County.

  • Boys & Girls Club of Snohomish County/City of Monroe for Sky River Park outdoor exercise equipment ($6,761.56);
  • Chain Lake Elementary School for playground improvements ($10,000);
  • Sky Valley Arts Council, Sultan for landscaping at Sky Valley Event Center & Park ($5,000);
  • City of Lake Stevens for installation of a rain garden at Eagle Ridge Park ($5,000); and
  • City of Lake Stevens for swings at Lundeen Park ($4,500).

This year the Sky Valley Arts Council received $5,000.00 again for additional landscaping needs.

Rotary Skate Park

The Rotary Skate Park is under way!  I am thankful for the work of our local 292, 302 and others for all of their great work!  This is going to be an incredible venue for our community.  We will be hosting a public open house in the spring once the park is completed.

Deputy Sheriff Ride Along

Last week I was able to do a ride along with one of our East County deputy sheriffs.  I am grateful for the hard work each and every one of these deputies do to keep our community safe.  If you see one of our deputies thank them for all the work they do.
