Paine Field Fire Department Airside Training Exercise
The Paine Field Fire Department conducted airside training exercises with their mutual aid partners, and invited County leaders to observe and participate in some of the drills.
The training objectives for these exercises focused on interagency operations during the initial 10–15min of a commercial aircraft disaster.
Each day featured a different crew engaging the same emergency scenario, with County leaders embedded in the responding teams to get a close-up look at air disaster response.
Light Rail Communities
Outreach Results
During the month of July, Snohomish County’s Light Rail Communities project hosted a number of public open-houses on the advance work Snohomish County is doing in conjunction with area agencies to prepare for light rail as it makes its way north. Nearly 100 community members attending the meetings in person and 3,200 participated online, where they learned more about the project and gave their feedback. A recap of these results can be found online. Snohomish County will be making some modifications to the early concepts based on what was heard from the public and stakeholders. A final report will be published later this year.
Next, the County will be working on a subarea plan for the greater area including and between the Mariner and Ash Way station areas. The subarea plan will be integrated into the next update of the County’s Growth Management Act Comprehensive Plan, which is due in June 2023, as well as regional planning efforts. While the Sound Transit Board of Directors has the final decision on the actual station location and track alignment, they will begin their public outreach efforts and project development process in 2020.

On Thursday, Sept 26th from 5pm – 7pm, there will be a volunteer rain garden planting party in Lynnwood. Rain gardens are designed landscape features that store and filter rain water. These gardens do a great job of filtering pollutants and recharging groundwater. Volunteers will be planting beautiful, hardy, and low-maintenance native plants in six different gardens. The plant varieties are chosen because of their ability to survive both drought and wet root conditions. The gardens are at various locations, but volunteers will be meeting at 4423-181st Place SW to get equipped with gloves and a shovel, as well a brief tool safety discussion and planting demonstration. For more information, contact Cameron Coronado at 425-670-5245 or ccoronado@lynnwoodwa.gov.
