Light Rail Communities Open Houses
Light Rail Communities Project will be hosting a second open house on Thursday, July 25th from 5-7pm to seek feedback on station area concepts. The voter-approved Sound Transit 3 will bring light rail to unincorporated Snohomish County by the mid-2030’s. Two stations will be located in unincorporated areas at 164th Street and 128th Street, near their intersections with I-5. To prepare for the arrival of light rail, the County is proactively planning with the surrounding communities, cities, transit agencies and utility providers to best integrate land use and transit in these areas. Public engagement and input will be sought out early and often over the duration of the project. An online open house will still be available through July 31st, as well as the second in-person open house on July 25th, at Oak Heights Elementary School, from 5-7pm.
Homage Senior Services now offers the Snohomish County Tenant Accessibility Program which provides accessibility modifications that benefit the special needs population in rental units. The Fair Housing Act requires that a property owner must permit, at the expense of the special needs person, reasonable modification of existing premises occupied or that will be occupied by that person if these modifications may be necessary to allow the tenant full enjoyment of the premises.
Modifications can include such things as wheelchair ramps, grab bars, ADA height toilets, additional handrails, and door-widening. Qualifications for this no-cost grant include: proof of disability, residence within an eligible Snohomish County area, resident falls under maximum income guidelines as a moderate-income tenant, and a signed landlord release for any requested accessibility modification.
Additional information on the grants, potential modifications, and qualifications can be found at the Homage Senior Services website or by calling 425-265-2222.
