Paris Air Show Report

Paris Air Show Ribbon Cutting

Paris Airshow State of Washington Booth Ribbon Cutting

I am honored to represent Snohomish County on our Economic Development efforts to bring more family wage jobs to Snohomish County.

In June, I was part of the delegation with the Washington State Department of Commerce that toured several facilities in Nantes, France. We toured the Port of Nantes/Saint–Nazaire, ChantierNaval de Saint-Nazaire regional shipbuilding company, Technocampus Smart Factory and met with the executives from several aerospace companies. These visits help us to learn more about other companies and businesses so we can plan for Snohomish County’s future.

Terry with Edwardo Torres

Chair Ryan and Edwardo Torres of Torres America

The Paris Air Show was spectacular! All key aerospace companies were in one setting. Our Washington State delegation was the largest ever, 80+ people. I spent most of my time with Economic Alliance of Snohomish County. EASC had pre-arranged meetings with key Aerospace companies prior to the start of the air show. The purpose of the meetings was to thank our current employers, encourage them to expand their operations in Snohomish County, and to recruit new businesses and employers to our county.

Terry and Shawn Dwyer

Chair Ryan and Shawn Dwyer of Orion Aerospace

Patrick Pierce of EASC and I met with many aerospace companies such as MTorres, Korry Electronics, Thales North America, Ascent Aerospace, Senior Aerospace and Crane Aerospace. We had a great team that included Arif Ghouse, Director of Paine Field Airport, Mayor Cassie Franklin and Economic Development Director Dan Eernisee from Everett and Larry Cluphf, Executive Director of the Washington Aerospace Training and Research Center at Edmonds Community College.

Economic Alliance of Snohomish County CEO Patrick Pearce and Chair Ryan

Bottom line: it was a fast paced trip with nonstop, back to back meetings.  Over the next few months, we will be reaching out to our contacts as we continue to work to bring more family wage jobs to Snohomish County.  A special thank you to our Snohomish County team members who were all working for the betterment of Snohomish County.

35th Ave Phase I Completed

Ribbon Cutting at 35th Ave Phase I

Ribbon Cutting 35th Ave Phase I

Snohomish County is one of the fastest growing counties in the country.  If the Southwest Urban Growth Area (UGA) was incorporated it would be the fourth most populous city in the state.

This project improves 35th Ave SE from 180th St SE to 152nd St SE by adding bike lanes, center turn lanes, planter strips, sidewalks and stormwater detention and treatment facilities.

35th Ave SE - Phase II will break ground during the summer of 2020 with safer walk routes for North Creek High School.  We are dedicated to improving infrastructure safety for cyclists and pedestrians

I am proud to be the Chair of the Public Works Committee and to work with our amazing Public Works staff led by Steve Thomsen and Doug McCormick as we work on these projects that improve our residents’ quality of life.

TOUR de TERRACE

Seafair Pirates

Tour de Terrace is a Seafair-sanctioned, summer festival that attracts tens of thousands of visitors to Mountlake Terrace each July. The first Tour de Terrace, as we know it today, was celebrated in 1994 when two residents, Jerry and Judi Smith, decided to establish an event to commemorate the city's 40th birthday and generate community spirit.

The Smiths and a small group of dedicated volunteers first started the Tour de Terrace Parade in 1993 which serves as a warm up for many groups participating in Seafair's Torchlight Parade.  The Tour de Terrace Parade always occurs on Friday night, the day before the Torchlight Parade.

Over the years, Tour de Terrace became a non-profit organization and today the festival features a parade complete with Seafair pirates and clowns, live music over three days, beer garden, carnival, street fair, classic car show, 5K fun run/walk and pancake breakfast. The Smith family, along with their trusted volunteers, still operate the festival with police, parks, public works and publicity assistance from the city.

The Tour de Terrace festival is located at the Evergreen Playfield Complex at 22205 56th Avenue W. The parade route runs along 56th Avenue W beginning at the staging area at 234th Street SW and concludes at the park. In 2019, Tour de Terrace will take place on July 26, 27 and 28.

Business Pros:  The Ebb and Flow of Sales

Date:  July 25
Time:  7 pm – 8:30 pm
Location:  Arena Sports, 13500 Bothell Everett Hwy.

Doing business in Snohomish County? Join us at Arena Sports for a light dinner and a free class on the ten ways to navigate cycles.  This program is free.

The ebb and flow of sales are a normal part of the business landscape. Your enterprise may have a steady increase in sales, then plateau or decline. Slow sales can increase stress and cause enthusiasm and motivation to disappear.

When this happens, it is wise to hit the pause button and explore 10 ways to navigate an ebb time. This includes the causes of cycles, assessing marketing activities, the 80/20 rule of revenue, creating a niche, reigniting enthusiasm and other ideas to help move your business forward.

Maya Sullivan helps empower people to become their own boss and enhance their financial insights.

This program is made possible by the Mill Creek Chamber of Commerce and the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation.

For more information please call Jennifer at the Mill Creek Library, 425-337-4822. Space is limited; please register.
