Budget Update
On September 25th, Executive Somers presented his 2019
budget to the Council. This year is
different than past years in that the Executive worked closely with Council
throughout the year to discuss budget priorities and work on crafting a budget
that had Council input from the beginning.
The budget proposed by the Executive does not raise the County’s general
property tax levy, prioritizes public safety, and focuses on streamlined
principles to best utilize tax payers' dollars.
At this time Council is hearing from the various county departments on
their specific needs and requests for 2019.
Council’s goal is to have an adopted budget in by mid – November.
Airport Tour
This month I hosted a reception and tour for the East County elected officials.
Mayors, city councilmembers, and community leaders throughout the district joined me for a sneak peak of the new airport.
We had over a 100 people come out to see the airport.
I am very excited to see this airport open and
thankful to Propeller Airport for their investment into our County.
According to Propeller, commercial air service at Paine Field will have a direct economic impact of an estimated $300 million and provide approximately 300 new jobs in Snohomish County.
October 29th the FAA will be
hosting a Public Information Workshop/Public Hearing at the Lynnwood Convention
Center (3711 196th St SW Lynnwood WA 98036) from 5:30 p.m. to
8:30 p.m. This will be an information Open
House format, to allow for one-on-one
interaction with the Study Team. The public can attend the workshop at any time
between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to review information related to the Draft
Supplemental EA and speak with the Study Team.
At 6:30 p.m., the Public Information Workshop will close, and the Public Hearing will begin. A brief presentation will be made at the start of the Public Hearing to explain the purpose, procedures, and rules of conduct. The Public Hearing will allow the public to enter their comments verbally into the record but will not include answering questions posed by members of the public. Attendees may sign up to speak at the Public Hearing until 8:30 p.m.
On
October 2nd WSDOT held an open house for community members to learn
about concepts to ease congestion and improve safety at the SR 522 – Paradise
Lake Road Interchange in Maltby. Over
250 residents came out to see the plan and share their comments. I was fortunate to be able talk to several
residents about the alternatives presented and talk about the overall growth
and capacity in the Maltby area. Several
people asked me for an update regarding the apartment complex near Paradise
Lake Road and I advised them that Snohomish County Planning and Development has
a webpage
that provides the most current information on this project.
This month I toured an old cabin outside of Index. Historians in the area believe this to be one of the oldest cabins in Snohomish County. The goal of this group is to move this cabin closer to town so all people can enjoy this part of our County’s rich history.
This
coming weekend WSDOT will close all lanes of westbound US 2 between SR 9 and SR
204 so they can lay down permanent striping on the newly paved portion of the
highway and perform expansion joint work. The WSDOT website
has additional information. There are
additional road closure plans this weekend and the full details can be found here.
