On September 20, 2018, the Washington State China Relations Council, Snohomish County, and the Economic Alliance of Snohomish County hosted a delegation from the city of Ningbo in Zhejiang Province for the China-US Ningbo City Snohomish County Trade and Investment Forum. The delegation included representatives from both government and industries in Ningbo, including automotive, information technology, and tourism.

Council Chair Stephanie Wright emphasized the importance of trade and investment between WA State and China. She encouraged delegates to learn more about Snohomish County and the opportunities for collaboration it offers to prospective investors.  Executive Dave Somers discussed efforts to maintain economic and cultural ties through trade missions, delegations, and business connections.  Patrick Pierce, President and CEO of the Economic Alliance Snohomish County, outlined the globally recognized brands operating in Snohomish County, as well as its wealth of educational institutions.

Council Begins Review of the 2019 Recommended Budget

The Snohomish County Council has begun the process of reviewing the 2019 Recommended Budget. Over the course of the next two months Council will hold public meetings and budget forums to discuss and deliberate with County departments and work toward a sustainable 2019 budget.

The Citizen Budget Forums are opportunities for Snohomish County residents to speak to the Council about their budget priorities. Council staff will lead a brief presentation explaining the breakdown of county dollars, after which the Council will listen to public comment.  The public is encouraged to attend meetings when they are able and to voice their thoughts and opinions during our public comment portion of the meetings.

Monday October 15th, 2018 at 6:30pm, the Council will host a Citizen Budget Forum in the Council Chambers. Oct 15th - Oct 18th, County departments will present to the Council their plans for the coming year, along with their needs for the budget. A second and third public forum will be held on Wednesday, October 24th at 10:30am and 6:30pm.  For more information on the breakdown of the budget hearing schedule or to view video and materials from meetings, visit the Council website.

Learn to Grow Your Own Groceries

Washington State University’s Snohomish County Extension in Everett will be providing a series of classes on home gardening skills with the focus of growing your own food.  Classes will cover soil health, watering, weeding and crop rotation; living with insects and differentiating between the helpful, manageable, and actual pests; seed starts and transplanting; and even all you’ll ever need to know about fruits and vegetables.  Individual classes are reasonably priced at $20 or a discounted rate for all ten.

Classes and Bike Rides for the Whole Family

Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace are working together to improve access to health and wellness choices within their communities, make bicycling safer, and increase connectivity by completing 11 critical missing links of the regional bicycle network. This collaboration, called Bike2Health, is funded by a grant from the Verdant Health Commission.  A major component of Bike2Health will be engaging the communities throughout planning and design, while also conducting public education and outreach about bicycle safety, benefits, maps and routes. Community members will be able to participate in a number of activities such as bicycle training events and bicycle rodeos. There are still plenty of classes and events planned for the month of October!  Find out more information by visiting the bike2health website.
