Robert Knoll, Legislative Aide

Fall is here!  There is a crispness in the air, leaves are changing color, kids are getting back into the school  routine, and for Council's Office--it's all about the budget.

Thank you for taking the time to read my eNewsletter this month.  As always, I'm grateful to be your representative.  Your feedback is welcome!  Please do not hesitate to contact me.

Budget Process is Underway

Budget

Annually, Snohomish County requires the county executive to submit a proposed budget to the council for consideration, which occurred this past Tuesday, as Executive Somers handed over his proposed budget to Chair Wright.

As the legislative branch of Snohomish County, the council has the responsibility of delegating spending authority to the executive branch and establishes the annual expenditure levels for "all" departments.  Council has a few options: pass the budget as is, amend, or rewrite its own budget.

I am currently the chair of the Finance and Economic Development Committee.  It is always my goal to make sure resources are handled as responsibly as possible.  This year's budget process is no different.  We are looking forward to a collaborative budget this year.

We have Public Hearings scheduled on the budget, and you are welcome to attend.  Please check our website for that information.  Also, comments are always welcome in writing to Contact.Council@snoco.org.  I appreciate your feedback.

Lodging Fund Investment

angels

Funds from lodging taxes paid on overnight stays in Snohomish County are distributed for the sole purpose of promoting tourism.

Recently I had the privilege of presenting a $200,000 check to the Everett Public Facilities District to help pay for improvements at the Angel of the Winds Arena.  Everett Public Facilities District is a municipal corporation that owns Angel of the Winds Arena.  The Everett Public Facilities District's mission is to bring people to downtown Everett, increase local entertainment options and spur economic development.

Angel of the Winds Arena hosts a variety of events and performances that draw people to Everett. This month the Arena will once again be hosting Skate America.  The best figure skaters from around the world will be competing in a televised three-day event.  Tickets are still available.
