 Paine Field Outdoor Rendering
The terminal building
at Paine Field Airport is nearing completion. I recently toured the terminal
and am impressed with the design, materials, and finishes in the building.
 Paine Field Indoor Rendering
The terminal waiting area has high ceilings, a lot of natural light, two fireplaces, and comfortable seats. (See renderings and photos!) The jet bridges from the waiting area to the jets have glass walls so you see the airport and the mountain views.
 Jet Bridge Exterior
There will be valet car
service available for the passengers who want to drop their car off and get
into the terminal faster.
This terminal is going
to be an easy, user friendly experience much nicer than what the County could
have built if we had built it on our own.
Thank you to Brett Smith, CEO of Propeller
Airports, and his partners for believing in us and investing $40 million into
this beautiful terminal!
 Paine Field Waiting Area
We are waiting for
final approval from the FAA and we expect to be wheels up with flights in the
first quarter of 2019.
This is going to be awesome!!!
Space
industry supports 6,200 jobs and contributes $1.8 billion to Washington’s
economy
Courtesy of Ann Avery of
PSRC
From rocket development and launch services to satellite
and space vehicle manufacturing, Washington is an increasingly important hub
for a growing commercial space sector according to a new study led by the Puget
Sound Regional Council.
The central Puget Sound region is already a solar system-wide
leader in aerospace and information technology, and we plan on being a world
leader in the space industry as well.
According to the Washington
State Space Economy report, several companies in the region directly employ
about 2,900 people in the space industry.
Another 1,100 jobs are indirectly created through the local supply chain
and another 2,200 jobs are induced through the spending of the industry and its
employees.
Business activities tied to direct, indirect and induced
impacts of the space industry will contribute an estimated $1.8 billion in
economic activity to Washington communities in 2018.
The estimated 6,200 jobs in the state supported by the
space industry will provide an estimated $610 million in payroll. In addition,
the space sector contributes about $62 million annually in state and local tax
revenues.
Washington has strengths that have helped establish the
state in the industry, including long-term investments in space and aerospace
supply chains, a large, skilled labor pool, support from universities, and
strong representation of private firms.
PSRC’s Economic
Development Board, which I chair, initiated the study of the region’s space
sector. Analysis was performed by BERK Consulting. Read the study at www.psrc.org/space-study.
Reappointment to the
NACO Transportation Steering Committee
National Association of Counties Organization (NACO)
President Greg Cox has reappointed me to the Transportation Steering
Committee.
The Transportation Steering Committee sets NACO's policy position on all
matters pertaining to federal transportation legislation, funding and
regulations and their impacts on county government, including highway and
bridge development, finance and safety, public transit development and finance,
transportation planning, airport development and service, passenger and freight
railroads, ports and waterways, freight movement, and research and development
of new modes of transportation.
I am honored to have been reappointed to this board. It dovetails well with my positions on the
Puget Sound Regional Council Transportation Policy Board and Community Transit
Board. I love my work on transportation issues and
the benefits I can help bring to Snohomish County.
This is my third term
on the committee, and it runs through July
31, 2019.
Left to Right: Corey Margolis, General Manager, Terry Ryan, Gary Weikel, Brian Sullivan
I was recently honored
to present a check for $200,000 to the Everett Public Facilities District to
help pay for hockey dasher boards and glass at Angel of the Winds Arena. The improvements were
needed to meet new safety standards of the WHL for our local Everett Silvertips
Hockey Team.
These
funds come from the lodging tax paid on overnight stays in Snohomish County. They are distributed to enhance and expand tourism and economic development in
Snohomish County. These funds cannot be used for any purpose other than promoting tourism.
Kirke, his wife Patti and Terry
The
County Council unanimously approved naming the plaza outside the remodeled
Snohomish County Courthouse for County Treasurer Kirke Sievers and his late
father Verne Sievers. Together, Kirke and his father have over 80 years
of service in various elected County offices. A plaque will be placed for
“Sievers Plaza” on the north side the building along Wall St.
I
would like to thank Kirke for his many years of service to our County. I
have personally appreciated his willingness to share his experience and wisdom
with me since I joined the County Council.
