An independent study shows Washington State ranks “most competitive” in U.S. for aerospace manufacturing

Our region is competing to have the new Boeing 797 built right here in the Puget Sound area.  At stake are billions of dollars and many family wage jobs.  Other areas of the country are working just as hard to lure Boeing to their area.  A recently announced study by independent researchers looked at 41 metrics in every state and the District of Columbia.  Washington State ranked #1!

Aerospace is a cornerstone of the region’s growing economy. Our region produces more commercial aircraft than any other place in the nation. Working together, we have an amazing opportunity to reinforce the state’s growing and diverse aerospace industry and engage a new generation of top aerospace and tech talent.

Looking at the numbers, it makes the most sense for Boeing to locate 797 production in our area.

The Boeing Company and Snohomish County have been great partners for many, many years.  We appreciate Boeing and look forward to our continued partnership.

As one example, Snohomish County and Everett insisted Sound Transit Light Rail go directly to Paine Field and the Boeing Plant.  Community Transit has several routes to serve Boeing workers.  The new Swift Green Line will run from Bothell/Canyon Park to Boeing/Paine Field.  We continue to make significant investments in infrastructure to meet Boeing’s needs today and in the future.

Generations of our families have worked at Boeing.  One out of every twenty-nine Washingtonians holds an engineering degree, the 2nd highest in the nation.  Our schools begin STEM programs at an early level.  A steady source of trained workers is available to Boeing and related companies.

The Boeing Company, Boeing employees and their families have done so much for all of us in Snohomish County.  Their fingerprints are everywhere in our communities.  We deeply appreciate the Boeing Company and their employees for their generosity.

As Vice Chair of the Snohomish County Council and President of the Puget Sound Regional Council Economic Development District, I want to assure you we are all working hard to secure the Boeing 797 production and jobs for our area.  The good news is we are #1!  Now we need work together to convince Boeing we are their #1 best option.
