Bring on summer and our amazing farmers markets!  A special congratulations to the Everett Farmers Market celebrating its 25th year anniversary.  I love to support our local farmers and artisans.  As always, I'm humbled to represent District 2.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with your concerns.

Diversion Center

Diversion Center

The Snohomish County Diversion Center is a short-term, residential program designed for the county's homeless population (often living in encampments), who are addicted to drugs (primarily opioids) and may be struggling with untreated mental health needs and/or committing low-level crimes to live and support their addiction.

Diversion centers have been found to reduce recidivism and use of crisis and emergency resources, as well as decrease behaviors associated with untreated mental health and substance use disorders. The mission of the Snohomish County Diversion Center is to: reduce criminal justice recidivism and costs, increase participation in treatment services, and increase housing stability for homeless individuals struggling with untreated mental illness and addiction.

Skilled staff are onsite 24/7 to provide

  • thorough needs assessment
  • medical and behavioral health screening at intake and medical monitoring throughout stay
  • assertive engagement in available services
  • medically-assisted treatment options
  • and individualized support and recovery plan development.

Prospective participants will be identified by the county’s law enforcement/embedded social worker teams and assigned a case manager to help them enroll in treatment options, including medication assisted treatment, inpatient residential treatment, and/or other social services to address individual needs.

The Snohomish County Diversion Center is intended to help those suffering from behavioral health and substance abuse challenges who are frequent users of expensive public safety and public health services. Most of these individuals are also homeless. Approximately 40 beds will be used for short-term placement and shelter (up to 15 days). Prospective participants will be identified by the county’s law enforcement/embedded social worker teams and assigned a case manager to help them enroll in treatment options, including medication assisted treatment, inpatient residential treatment, and/or other social services to address individual needs. The population served may be expanded as other complementary community services come online.

White Privilege: The Other Side of Racial Inequality
June 9   2 PM - 3 PM

LIBRARY

Conversations about racial inequality usually focus on the disadvantages faced by people of color in American society. But there is another side to this inequality: the advantages that white people experience because of their race. Sociology professor Teresa Ciabattari leads an interactive conversation that explores what white privilege is, discusses a variety of examples of privilege for individuals and institutions and provides tools for learning how to address it. Participants will gain knowledge and resources to foster inclusion and racial justice in their own communities. A Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau program. All sponsored by the Friends of the Mukilteo Library.
