Happy Spring! I'm honored to serve as your representative for District 2. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your issues and concerns.
Earth Day was created in 1970 by Senator Gaylor Nelson as a way to highlight the issue of legal and regulatory mechanisms to protect our environment. On that first Earth Day, 22 million Americans demonstrated in different U.S. cities to create a call of action. Due to Sen. Nelson's efforts, the Environmental Protection Agency was born and a number of landmark policies became law such as the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts.
Today it is estimated that 1 billion people all over the globe celebrate Earth Day. On Friday, April 20th, there will be an Earth Day celebration from 11:30 AM -1:30 PM on our County Campus at 3000 Rockefeller Avenue. At the celebration will be educational booths, free giveaways, prize-drawings, electronics recycling, food trucks and signups for volunteer opportunities.
For a list of local Earth Day activities and volunteer opportunities, please visit Snohomish County's website.
Everett Received Top Staycation Destination Award
As the Herald reported a few months back, Expedia named Everett the best small city for a "staycation" (stay-at-home vacation).
Places cited were Imagine Children's Museum, Schack Art Center, Legion Park's Evergreen Arboretum & Garden, Howarth Park, Spencer Island Park, Everett Community College's Nishiyama Japanese Garden, Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum, Moon Tree Asian Tapas, The New Mexicans, Port Gardner Bay Winery and Shawn O'Donnell's American Grill & Irish Pub.
This list does not even include a host of other parks, beaches, businesses, sports teams, and events that make Everett such a wonderful place to live! As Springtime is here and the weather is warming, I plan to get out and enjoy more parks in Everett, and I hope you do also.
