Upcoming Night Meeting

In 2016, Snohomish County voters approved Proposition 5. The proposition amended the Snohomish County Charter and requires the County Council conduct an evening meeting within each Council legislative district per calendar year.  The evening meeting for District 2 will be held Monday, March 12th at the Tulalip Tribes Administration Building, 6406 Marine Drive, Room 162, starting at 6:00 PM.  Come and see your Council in action.  At every meeting there is a public comment period.  I'd love to see you there.

2018 Point-in-Time Count

Info Courtesy of Snohomish County's Human Services Website

The Annual Point-in-Time (PIT) count provides a snapshot of homelessness in Snohomish County on a single night in January of each year.   While it is not possible to count every homeless person, the methodology includes outreach efforts targeting known areas and general canvassing to capture the best picture possible.   The count allows us to look at trends over the years by using consistent methodology.  The PIT includes use of a survey tool which provides a means for gathering information directly from individuals and families experiencing homelessness about their needs and the causes of homelessness. The PIT results, along with other data and information, help inform the Everett/Snohomish County Continuum of Care plan for addressing needs and making progress toward goals to reduce, end, and prevent homelessness.

On January 23, 2018, over 250 volunteers and County staff surveyed 378 persons in 331 households who were unsheltered at the time of the count.  Compared to the 2017 count this represented a 27% decrease but the overall trend since 2013 is upward with an increase of 9.9%  A full report of the count conducted in January of 2018 will be released later this year but if you would like to read more of the results from January 2018, please read here.

Thank you to all the many volunteers who make the count happen every year.  I am committed to tackling the complicated issues of homelessness and working towards ultimately ending homelessness in Snohomish County.

Happy Quasquicentennial Everett!

Did you know that Everett is 125 years young this year?!  Everett was officially incorporated on May 4, 1893.  Everett got its name from Everett Colby, son of founder Charles Colby.  Everett is the largest city in Snohomish County.  Everett is also home to the largest public marina on the west cost of the US, and is home to the largest building in the world - Boeing's Everett plant.  In 1992 Naval Station Everett formally opened and has been home to the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Nimitz.

From its early years in the lumber trade to being home to world's largest aerospace manufacturer, Boeing, Everett has weathered its fair share of change.  I am proud to live and work in Everett and will do what I can to preserve its rich history while adapting to what the future may hold.

Village Theatre presents “The Gin Game”

March 2 – March 25, 2018

Gin Game

Snappy dialogue and quick wit crackle in this Pulitzer Prize-winning play that was called, “the closest thing the theatre offers to a duel at 10 paces” by The New York Times. Meet Weller and Fonsia, two strangers who are about to enter into a seemingly harmless game of Gin Rummy. But when Fonsia goes on an instant winning streak, tensions build within their new friendship and the conversation starts to get personal. A collaboration between local Seattle legends Jeff Steitzer (director), Kurt Beattie (Weller), and Marianne Owen (Fonsia), The Gin Game is full of humor, spirit, and more than a touch of warfare.

Please check website for dates and show times.
