County Budget
The Council continues
to work intensely reviewing the Executive's proposed 2018 budget. I
am deeply concerned the proposed budget is not sustainable and will give us an
even bigger hole to fill in 2019.
I have heard loud and clear that my
constituents oppose the 4% tax increase in the Executive’s proposed budget. I believe we can still add five new deputies that
our County desperately needs by reducing spending elsewhere in the proposed budget.
There
are no easy answers or fixes to creating a sustainable budget. I am
working with my fellow councilmembers and our analysts to come up with a
reasonable budget the Council can support.
The Council will have a public hearing regarding the budget on November 13.
Please continue to share your thoughts and comments with me via email or
telephone calls.
Veterans Day
Veterans
Day is Saturday, November 11. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all
US Military veterans. All men and women serving our great country deserve
our thanks and respect. These soldiers and their families give up so much
for all of us. The least we can do is give our sincere thanks to our
heroes for their courage and sacrifice. Thank you to all our
Veterans! God Bless you!
Please
see the Veteran’s Day events below in the Mill Creek section.
Thanksgiving is a national holiday and a time for
reflection about the many blessings in our lives: family, friends and living in the most
beautiful part of our country. Have fun
during the upcoming holidays starting with Thanksgiving!
Spend time with your families! Plan on having family
movie nights! The Hallmark Channel will begin showing their Christmas movies. These are well made, family friendly movies!
Turn off the cell phones, fire up the popcorn maker and gather around the
television. Enjoy the movies and cherish the time with your family. It is a
great way to start the holidays!
Best wishes this
Thanksgiving from our family to yours.
Congratulations to Girl Scout Troop 43752 and
the City of Mountlake Terrace for successfully completing their Pathway Project
at Bicentennial Park. These are great kids
making a difference in their community! It is very inspiring to see our
youth taking the initiative on local, civic projects.
The paving work was completed with the help of a $5,000
Small Capital Project Partnership grant from Snohomish County. Pictured here are several members of Troop 43752 and Cub Scouts doing gravel work at the park.
Thank you Girl Scout Troop 43752 for a job well done!

Tree Lighting Ceremony Friday, December 1, 2017
The Tree Lighting Ceremony is held annually on the first Friday evening
December at 6:30 p.m. at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Avenue W.
Thanks to our Tour de Terrace volunteers who serve cocoa, coffee and
cookies at the Evergreen Playfield concession stand while local school children
sing carols. The “tree”, which can be seen from miles around, is actually a frame
constructed with 1,800 LED lights and sits atop the city’s water tower.
Experienced attendees know that Santa will make his grand entrance
on a Fire Truck! Guests should dress warm and wear boots if the weather is wet
because it is a dirt field.
The Tree Lighting event is funded through sponsorships and the 2016 event was
sponsored by Vineyard Park of Mountlake Terrace. The event is free to the
public, however cash donations will be accepted at the concession stand for the
Michelle Ringler Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund. Since 2002, the Fund has
helped over 400 children register for recreation programs at the Mountlake
Terrace Recreation Pavilion.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony brings our community together with holiday spirit.
For more information, please call the Recreation Pavilion at (425) 776-9173.
