Evergreen State Fairgrounds
I am very excited to announce that the Fairgrounds is
hosting its' first annual Cinco de Mayo Carnival and Market from May 5th –
7th. There will be rides,
food booths and racing – events for the whole family all weekend long. I will be there with my family so I hope to
see you there. For information on all
the events go to - http://evergreenfair.org/180/2017-Cinco-de-Mayo-Carnival.
And since I have mentioned the fairgrounds, I wanted
to also share with you the concert line up for this year's fair and where you can go to purchase
tickets – here is the link http://www.evergreenfair.org/164/Concerts. The Fairgrounds is a vital part of who we are
as Snohomish County and especially East County.
522 Update
I
am pleased to say that the state has authorized $750,000.00 for design work for
the Paradise Lake Road interchange. While I understand that to some this might not seem like a lot of
funding, but given that fact that NO funding was going to be authorized until
2025, this is a huge step in the right direction. Once we have a design complete, this project
becomes shovel ready and has the chance to move up in the timeline. This accomplishment is due to a great
bi-partisan effort – I worked closely with Senator Guy Palumbo, Monroe Mayor
Geoffrey Thomas and County Executive Dave Somers to receive support for this
funding. I will continue to work on
behalf of my constituents on this roadway and other vital roadways in my
district.
WSDOT
is set to hold its' second open house to share with the community the potential
improvement options for the SR9/SR 204 intersection. The meeting will be May 11th from
6pm to 8pm at the Hillcrest Elementary School, 9315 4th ST SE Lake
Stevens WA. This $69.5 million project is part of the Connecting Washington
Transportation Package. For additional information you can go to http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR9/SR204Improvements/
This
year’s transportation budget also included funding for US 2. Funding includes
the following areas – US 2 Trestle, US 2/Bickford and general funds for US 2
Safety. I would also like to provide
information regarding an upcoming paving project. Paving will be done from milepost 21 west of
Fern Bluff Road in Sultan to 10th St. in Gold Bar this spring. For additional information on this project
you can go to http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/US2/FernBluffto10thPaving/

Evergreen Speedway will be hosting the Mark Galloway 150
Race over Memorial Day weekend. This
race is in honor of Mark Galloway who loved the Speedway and racing. Mark was on the crew for a variety of race
teams before becoming a Tech Inspector at the Speedway. Did you know the Evergreen Speedway was
recently named as one of NASCAR’s Top Ten Short Tracks in the country for the
fifth straight year? Evergreen Speedway
is also home to some of the biggest motorsports events on the west coast,
including their premier event, Summer Showdown.
The Summer Showdown will be the biggest NASCAR Short Track event this
year and was recently named a “Top Ten Bucket List Short Track Event to
Attend” by Speedway Illustrated. This
event will take place July 20th through the 22nd. For
additional information on events at the Speedway please go to https://www.evergreenspeedway.com/.
I am so proud this unique and wonderful venue is in our district! Doug and Traci Hobbs have done an outstanding
job operating the Speedway.
I
was very fortunate to be part of the reception and passing of the Lake
Stevens Ordinance 996 which established a Veterans Commission for the City of
Lake Stevens. This commission was
established to help understand the skills and needs of our veterans and their
families, as well as to promote opportunities for veterans in business and local
service organizations. I am proud to
have a city in my district that recognizes the talents and contributions our Veterans
provide to our communities. This is a
great step in honoring these vital members of our country.
I was fortunate enough to be out in Monroe for the Chamber
Community Awards night. It was great to
see so many businesses and individuals making a difference in our community.
Summer
is just around the corner so I would like to share information regarding the
upcoming summer activities at our local parks. I have included two links for you – one is to our recreation programs and
classes page - http://www.snohomishcountywa.gov/813/Recreation. Here you can find general information
regarding upcoming events for the summer.
The second link is to the registration page for activities - https://apm.activecommunities.com/snoco/Activity_Search?txtActivitySearch=&applyFiltersDefaultValue=true&cat=Activities. Here you can sort classes by park, date, time,
etc.
Our parks are the best in the state – I hope you can get out and enjoy
them now and during this summer.
