Get Engaged Boards and Commissions Application Open Through April 25
The City of Seattle and the Y Social Impact Center are excited to announce that the Get Engaged program is now accepting applications!
The Get Engaged program places individuals ages 18-29 on the City of Seattle’s boards and commissions. Get Engaged board members serve a one-year term as fully vested and voting members starting in September. Acting in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and City Council, board members help shape policy decisions, make recommendations, and provide citizen participation in city government. Since 2001, the Get Engaged program has been dedicated to cultivating the next generation of leaders and advocating for the influence of young voices in city affairs.
Applications for the 2025-2026 term will be accepted until Friday, April 25th at 11:59pm.

Sage Leaders is now accepting applications for the Community Leadership Institute! - apply by April 30
Sage Leaders’ Community Leadership Institute (CLI) is a fellowship program that resources, educates, and places emerging leaders from communities of color and low-income communities to serve on strategic municipal boards and commissions.
Launched in 2015, the six-month fellowship trains emerging leaders in issues such as housing, land use, transit, climate, and economic development. Graduates learn the nuts and bolts of local government processes, such as municipal budgeting, parliamentary procedures, and lawmaking, as well as advocacy, storytelling, and communication skills. After graduation, the fellows apply for and are placed on strategic boards, commissions, and task forces at the city and county level.

Building Art Spaces Equitably (B.A.S.E.) Program 2025 Applications Open! Close May 5
Build Art Space Equitably (B.A.S.E.) is a certification program designed extend the “onramp” to commercial real estate development further into cultural communities. Its 20-person annual cohort explores a curriculum centered on the intersection of commercial real estate, community development, and the arts.

ECOSS Outdoor Leadership Cohort Application Open - Apply by May 14
Become an outdoor leader! In this cohort program, you will experience different outdoor activities, connect with nature, and gain essential skills to lead outings.
This cohort is open to participants 18 years or older, of any skill level, with priority given to people who haven't had the opportunity to be outdoors before. Members of BIPOC or immigrant communities are encouraged to apply. Up to $1,000 stipend available for completion of program.

ECOSS's Outdoor Leadership Empowerment program deepens the focus on building capacity in immigrant and refugee communities for connecting with nature in ways that align with their cultural and community needs. Communities Count is a resource that supports King County communities in the use of data in promoting and achieving equity. Communities Count does this by:
- Providing a platform for community data & stories
- Highlighting data on disparities, inequities and strengths in our community
- Complementing existing civic, social, economic, and health indicators
- Providing data support and trainings to King County communities

Volunteers Needed for Seattle’s Construction Codes Advisory Board - Apply by April 30
We’re looking for 3 people to join our Construction Codes Advisory Board (CCAB). We’re seeking civic-minded individuals with diverse perspectives and experience with building design, development or construction. Deadline to apply is end-of-day April 30, 2025.
If you are interested in serving on the CCAB, fill out an application and attach a resume and letter of interest on the Seattle boards & commissions website. We’ll review resumes and recommend candidates to the Mayor’s Office for appointment. You can also contact Jenifer Gilliland at Jenifer.gilliland@seattle.gov for more information.

Ballard Avenue Landmark District Board Notice of Election - Nominations open until May 6
The Seattle Department of Neighborhoods (DON) Historic Preservation Program conducts an annual election for the selection of Ballard Avenue Landmark District Board members who have been nominated by the community. All residents, persons who operate businesses, and property owners in the Ballard Avenue Landmark District who have registered to vote at least fourteen (14) days prior to the election date, are eligible to vote.
Candidates for three of the seven total positions on the Ballard Avenue Landmark District Board will appear on the 2025 ballot.
- Position #2 for Property Owner (term expires 6/30/27)
- Position #3 for Resident (term expires 6/30/27)
- Position #4 for Property Owner or Business Person (term expires 6/30/27)
Community members are invited to nominate candidates for these positions. Nomination forms must be completed and returned to the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Seattle Public Utilities Customer Review Panel and Solid Waste Advisory Committee Seeks New Members! - Apply by May 9
We have two exciting opportunities for community to work with SPU: the Customer Review Panel (CRP) and the Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC). CRP and SWAC are looking for new members to contribute expertise and passion to help improve utility services and advance our commitment to environmental stewardship and social justice.

Mayor Harrell seeks members for Landmarks Preservation Board positions including At-Large, Historian, Finance, and Structural Engineer - apply by May 19
Mayor Bruce Harrell is seeking new members to serve on the Landmarks Preservation Board in the following positions: At-Large, Historian, Finance, and Structural Engineer. The 12-member Landmarks Preservation Board makes recommendations to Seattle City Council for landmark designation and reviews proposed alterations to designated features of landmark properties.
Board meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 3:30 p.m. In general, board members must commit approximately 10 hours per month to Landmarks Board business. This position is a 3-year term. Interested applicants must be Seattle area residents. Board members serve without compensation.
If you are interested in being considered, please submit a letter of interest and a resume by Monday, May 19.

King County launches new Human and Civil Rights Commission, application process now underway - deadline June 3
The Human and Civil Rights Commission plays a pivotal role in advising the King County Executive, King County Council, and the public on implementing policies that advance human and civil rights.
Join the Human and Civil Rights Commission to shape policies, collaborate with passionate advocates, gain experience in policy and community engagement, and drive meaningful change for equity and justice.
Commission members who are not government employed receive a $75 stipend provided for each monthly commission meeting and reimbursements for transportation costs.

Rep Adam Smith Opens Application for Youth Advisory Council - deadline June 16
Congressman Adam Smith (WA-09) is accepting applications for the 2025-26 cohort of his Youth Advisory Council. The Youth Advisory Council gives community-minded and civically engaged students an opportunity to discuss critical issues with Congressman Smith and his staff. Participants will meet in-person once per month in the Congressman’s Kent office throughout the 2025-26 school year.
All current high school and college students living in Washington’s Ninth Congressional District are eligible to serve on the Youth Advisory Council. Applications will be accepted from April 4, 2025 through June 16, 2025.

Serve on the Seattle Community Police Commission - Applications Accepted on a Rolling Basis
The Community Police Commission listens to, amplifies, and builds common ground among communities affected by policing in Seattle. We champion policing practices centered in justice and equity. The Community Police Commission (CPC) is made up of up to 15 commissioners.
Applications are considered on a rolling basis. Due to scheduling, it may be some time before we can schedule interviews and make final decisions on appointments.
There is a stipend available for those in need, or for whom unpaid time off from work presents a significant barrier. Our aim is to ensure that economic constraints do not prohibit participation from members of our community.

Washington State Department of Commerce is seeking feedback on the draft update to the 2025-2029 Consolidated Plan, which will guide distribution of federal housing funding in Washington over the next four years.
The state’s Consolidated Plan seeks to benefit low-income households and areas, identify housing and community development needs, and set priorities and strategies to meet those needs.

Washington State Department of Commerce - Community Feedback Survey Spring 2025
The Washington State Department of Commerce is committed to investing in, and partnering with, communities like yours – now and into the future.
A significant aspect of that commitment is delivering excellent customer service. Your feedback will help us understand how we can better support the individuals, organizations, and communities we work with every day.
The audience for this survey includes elected officials, key leaders in community, representatives from tribal nations and tribal non-profits, community-based organizations and non-profits, local governments, special districts, school districts, faith-based communities, sector focused organizations or entities, businesses, and folks that directly have received assistance from Commerce.
The survey will take just a few minutes of your valuable time. We’ve come up with three ways you can provide feedback on your experience with Commerce:
