Thank you to everyone who submitted photos to the Conservation in Action mini-competition, as part of the 2025 Conservation District Photo Contest!
District staff submitted over 50 incredible shots to this competition, and the voting was tough (and tight!). The Communications, Partnership, and Outreach (CPO) Group selected the three photos below as the best examples of conservation work in action— showing district staff's dedication, creativity, and impact on the ground.
First place in the Conservation in Action mini-competition goes to Mackenzie Hagedorn of Clark Conservation District, for her photo, "Securing the Tree." Mackenzie's photo captures Clark CD staff planting a maple tree in a community member's yard.
Beautiful photo, Mackenzie! Thank you for showcasing the hands-on work happening within your district.

2nd place goes to Alexis Bryson of Whatcom Conservation District, for her photo, "Learning about Macro Invertebrates." Alexis' photo captures Whatcom CD's Aneka Sweeney showing a group of 7th graders how to find macro invertebrates in a stream during a Snow To Sea program field trip. |

3rd place goes to "Reconnecting Habitats," by Alexander Birk of Pacific Conservation District! Alex's photo shows Smith Creek and the Naselle River Watershed, where a county road was replaced, removing tide gates and installing a bridge to reconnect salmon with miles of spawning grounds. This photo shows one of the last images of the creek's separation from tidal influence. |
SCC will share the winning photos on our social media channels this week. Keep an eye out and help us celebrate the great work happening across the state! 🎉
