News You Can Use

Out of an abundance of caution, the Sammamish Lunar New Year Celebration scheduled for Saturday, January 25th from 1pm-4pm has been canceled. Due to the recent public health concern in the region, community organizers have decided to take precautionary measures and be sensitive to the community by cancelling all performances, activities, and events for the day. Please note that there are currently no concerns of virus outbreak from authorities in King County; this was a committee organization decision and all community partners agreed to cancel the event. Thank you for your understanding.
Volunteer at East Lake Sammamish Park on Sunday, February 2, from 10am - 1pm! Volunteers will help remove invasive blackberry and mulch at East Sammamish Park. Give back to your community, learn about native plants and enhance wildlife habitat.
This project is perfect for students looking to complete community service hours for school and great for groups of all ages. Water, snacks, gloves and tools will be provided. Please dress appropriately for weather; wear long sleeves/pants and closed-toed shoes.

The Issaquah City Council deliberated on the remainder of its 2019 Comprehensive Plan docket at their January 21, 2020 regular council meeting. They voted to approve the designation and zoning for the Issaquah School District’s proposed new elementary and high school to be located at Providence Heights. The Council’s decision allows the District to move forward, and a process will begin that includes environmental reviews (SEPAs) where the School District will provide the review, as well as site plan reviews and permit issuances from the City of Issaquah. In addition, due to the property location along 228th Avenue NE, Issaquah School District would also be required to apply for Right-of-Way permits from the City of Sammamish for future traffic and roadway modifications.

These are the road work projects scheduled in Sammamish for the week of January 24-31.
SCHEDULES MAY CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER AND/OR EQUIPMENT AVAILABILITY
4th Street: Curbs and Gutters
The base layer of pavement has been placed over the whole road. The contractor will begin installation of an underground stormwater detention tank on SE 4th St. just west of 228th Ave SE. The bulk of the work is scheduled for mid-February, much of which can be done without lane closures. Other ongoing work includes sidewalk and streetscaping, along with some remaining minor underground utility work. Flaggers continue to manage traffic through the work zone.
228th Catch Basin Repair
Weather permitting, work will continue on 228th between Discovery Elementary and Skyline High School to repair the catch basins along the roadway. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in the location of work. Work is occurring along the northbound direction.
Verizon 5G Drilling on 228th
A contractor has begun installing conduit by directional drilling along the northbound 228th Ave SE sidewalk between SE 24th Street and Issaquah-Pine Lake Road.
- The northbound curb lane may be affected by lane closures for equipment to access work areas, which may also close the sidewalks in some places.
- Sidewalk detours will be provided for pedestrians to navigate around the closures.
- Signalized intersections will have off-duty uniformed patrol officers onsite.
- This work is anticipated to last approximately two more weeks.
Issaquah-Fall City Road
- Please be prepared for additional delays as utility relocations are currently impacting traffic (PSE Gas, PSE Electric, Comcast, Century Link).
- Using the project detour route, Issaquah Beaver Lake Rd-Issaquah Pine Lake Road, may result in shorter drive times during peak delays.
- The initial roadway lowering has been completed on the south side of Pacific Cascade Middle School (PCMS)
- Puget Sound Energy (PSE) Gas, PSE Electric, Comcast, Century Link, & Verizon are relocating utilities in this lowered section of the road
- Storm drainage installation continues
- Work continues on the new pedestrian path leading to the PCMS front entrance
- The temporary roundabout at SE Issaquah Beaver Lake Rd./256th Ave./East Beaver Lake Dr. is pending, dependent on dry weather for striping
Weekday work hours are 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. along Issaquah-Fall City Road.
2019 Intersection Improvement Project (Flashing Yellow Arrow Installation)
The general contractor began work along the 228th corridor to install flashing yellow arrows. Work interrupted during last week due to weather conditions (Issaquah-Beaver Lake Road at SE Duthie Hill Road and SE Duthie Hill Road at Trossachs Blvd. SE) will resume the week of February 3rd. Some intersections will need to be rescheduled.
