City of Redmond Statement on Status of ALPR Cameras
REDMOND, WA – The City of Redmond has suspended the use of Flock Safety automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras in response to Council action on Nov. 3, 2025. Redmond cameras were not subject to any data breach, there was no unauthorized third-party sharing, nor any federal access to its system. All 24 of Redmond’s Flock Safety ALPR cameras have been suspended and are not collecting data while the City continues to evaluate the Flock Safety contract while monitoring developments at the state and federal levels.
Although the system is currently offline, Redmond remains under contract with Flock Safety until early June 2027. Other jurisdictions may be, or have been, piloting or under different contract terms and at different stages of implementing the technology, but Redmond will maintain its suspension while the review process continues.
The City Council will hold a study session on Mar. 10, 2026, to discuss the Redmond Police Department’s use of public safety technologies, including Flock ALPRs. No final action occurs at study sessions, which focus on receiving information and studying specific issues.
