Redmond Mayor Angela Birney Confirmed to Sound Transit Board

REDMOND, WA – Yesterday, Mayor Angela Birney was confirmed by the King County Council to the Sound Transit Board of Directors. Her reappointment and confirmation reflect King County Executive Girmay Zahilay’s recognition of the need for regional collaboration on the future of mass transit.

“Thank you to Executive Zahilay for the opportunity to continue serving on the Sound Transit Board,” said Mayor Birney. “I am honored to be in the position and represent the needs and priorities in East King County. I remain committed to increasing connectivity and access to transit across the entire Puget Sound region.”

Mayor Birney was first appointed to the Sound Transit Board in 2024. Her reappointed term will serve four years.

With four light rail stations open in Redmond and the anticipated opening of the Crosslake Connection next year, East King County plays a critical role in the success of the regional transit system. Mayor Birney’s representation on the Board provides a strong leadership voice for the Eastside and a champion for the power of transit to create a more sustainable, equitable, and thriving region.
