Fútbol for All Speaker Series Kicked Off With Soccer 101

REDMOND, WA - Last night, Seattle Sounders legends James Riley, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, and Kelyn Rowe joined more than 60 community members at the Redmond Senior & Community Center for Soccer 101, the first session in the City’s Fútbol for All Speaker Series. Through a lively panel discussion led by JR7 Founder James Riley and watching part of the Seattle Sounders playoff match, the pros shared their thoughts on the fundamentals of soccer, its global culture, and why the World Cup is one of the most unifying events in the world.

Presented in partnership with Amazon, Redmond’s Fútbol for All Speaker Series aims to bring the community together through a wide range of compelling presentations led by experts in each field. Presentations are free and open to the public.

“We’re thrilled to have kicked off our Fútbol for All Speaker Series, part of our Redmond is Ready for the World campaign,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “Soccer is a sport that unites people, cultures, and traditions, and we are excited for the energy and connection next year’s World Cup will bring to our community.”

In 2026, the series will continue: Ever wondered how photographers capture the magic of a game? Sit down with a Sounders and Seahawks team photographer to hear more. Curious how to use sports talk to build business relationships? Learn how from veteran sports broadcaster Jen Mueller! How did the Seattle region become a hotbed for soccer, anyway? Learn about the history of Soccer in Seattle from passionate history buffs. All of these topics – and more – will be part of the City’s Fútbol for All Speaker Series.

In addition to Fútbol for All, the City of Redmond has developed a comprehensive collection of other World Cup-focused programs and activities. Through its Redmond is Ready for the World campaign, the City aims to foster community pride and connection by engaging with residents and community members and supporting local businesses as they prepare for next summer, using the event as a catalyst to drive Redmond’s progress.
