Redmond Names New Supervising Prosecuting Attorney
REDMOND, WA - The City of Redmond has promoted Polly Peshtaz to supervising prosecuting attorney, following Rebecca Mueller’s appointment to city attorney. Peshtaz started her new role on Aug. 5.
“We are fortunate to have Polly stepping into this key role guiding the City’s prosecutorial team,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “Her legal skill, principled judgment, and devotion to public service will allow her to seamlessly carry on the critical work being done by the prosecutor’s office to keep Redmond a safe and thriving community.”
Peshtaz joined the City in January 2020 as a deputy prosecuting attorney. In her role, she handled criminal cases, contested civil infractions, and participated in the City’s Community Court. Peshtaz also participated in in-service training sessions with law enforcement to provide legal and legislative updates. In addition to these daily duties, she regularly attended the King County District court meetings, Community Court operational meetings, and participated in the City’s Leadership Essentials training in June 2024. Peshtaz represented the prosecutor’s office at the Washington State Association of Municipal Attorney’s (WSAMA) Conference, speaking on topics of domestic violence prosecution, and is a current board member of the WSAMA Topics Committee. In February 2025, Peshtaz served as an attorney rater for the YMCA Mock Trial Program in Redmond, where she provided guidance and feedback to students.
She now moves into the role as Redmond’s supervising prosecuting attorney with more than 18 years of prosecutorial experience. Peshtaz graduated with her Juris Doctorate degree in 2005 from Seattle University School of Law. Soon after, she began as a prosecutor for the City of Tacoma, where she served for over 13 years. During this period, Peshtaz was also a regular speaker in the community, discussing the topic of domestic violence at various prosecution conferences, the YWCA women’s shelter, and the Citizen’s Academy.
When asked about the new position, Peshtaz said, “I am excited to step into this new role as the Supervising Attorney for the Prosecutor’s office to continue to provide excellent service and leadership to the community we serve, and to ensure that we uphold integrity and dedication to all aspects of public safety.”
