Redmond Receives Honorable Mention in Mayors' Climate Protection Awards
U.S. Conference of Mayors recognizes the Climate Resiliency and Sustainability in Vegetation Management Plan
REDMOND, WA - Redmond was recently recognized with a small city honorable mention as part of the 2025 Mayors’ Climate Protection Awards. The award commends Redmond’s local action, highlighted by the City’s Climate Resiliency and Sustainability in Vegetation Management Plan, which affirms commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. The annual awards, which recognize mayors for climate leadership, were announced on June 19 at the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ 93rd annual meeting.
“Redmond is honored to receive this recognition,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “By aligning sustainability goals with daily practices, we’re building a city that’s healthier, greener, and better prepared for the future.”
The Climate Resiliency and Sustainability in Vegetation Management Plan began implementation in spring 2024. It is a comprehensive initiative, developed in response to community input and guided by the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan and the Parks, Arts, Recreation, Culture, and Conservation (PARCC) Plan. The City is approaching this work holistically and looking at all facets of vegetation management to strategically and methodically expand tree canopy, increase pollinator garden opportunities, establish strategic natural meadows and rewilding areas, reduce pesticide usage, and reduce emissions in operations.
