Police Department Seeks Community Members for Independent Force Investigation Team
REDMOND, WA - The Redmond Police Department is looking to fill two vacancies on the Independent Force Investigation Team of King County (IFIT-KC).
Interested community members residing within Redmond city limits are encouraged to attend an information session at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 2, at the Redmond Police Department. Applications will be accepted from June 3 to June 10.
The representatives will serve for a two-year term, with the Chief of Police reviewing and extending assignments. This is a voluntary and unpaid position.
The IFIT-KC investigates police use of deadly force in law enforcement agencies within King County. It operates independently from the internal investigations of any involved agency to conduct criminal investigations of incidents involving police use of deadly force.
In 2019, the Washington State legislature enacted the Law Enforcement Training and Community Safety Act (LETCSA). One key provision of LETCSA mandates that all police uses of force resulting in death, substantial bodily harm, or great bodily harm must be investigated independently, separate from the agency involved.
The goal is to improve accountability, enhance transparency, and foster trust between law enforcement and the community.
The Redmond Chief of Police and Command personnel will interview applicants on June 16, and selections will be made in collaboration with the City of Redmond Mayor’s Office.
