Redmond Launches Community Engagement for Teen Services

REDMOND, WA - The City of Redmond is launching a comprehensive engagement process to better understand and support the needs of Redmond’s current and future teens. From April through June 2025, the City will gather feedback from teens, families, and community members to identify what teens need, how to best serve their interests, and where services are needed most. By actively engaging the community, the City aims to ensure that teen services are accessible, relevant, and aligned with the evolving needs of Redmond’s youth.

“Teens are vital to our community’s vibrancy,” said Redmond Mayor Angela Birney. “We encourage young people and community members to share their ideas for the future of our teen programs to ensure they continue to support and empower our youth.”

To ensure teens have a direct role in shaping the future of these programs, the City is prioritizing youth voices throughout the engagement process. Collaboration with the City’s longstanding Redmond Youth Partnership Advisory Committee (RYPAC), which empowers teens to develop leadership skills and participate in meaningful community service projects and other teen groups, will help to ensure that youth perspectives are reflected in the future of Redmond’s teen services. As part of this effort, the City will host a community meeting later this spring to provide Redmond teens with a direct opportunity to share their insights, experiences, and ideas.

In addition to teen engagement, the City is providing multiple ways for the community to participate. Community members are encouraged to provide input through the Redmond Teen Services questionnaire, available online from March 31 through April 21, 2025. To further engage with teens and families, city staff will be at various community events throughout the spring to gather valuable feedback. These collective insights will play a crucial role in refining the long-term vision for teen services to reflect the current and evolving needs, interests, and aspirations of Redmond’s youth.

Redmond offers a wide range of teen-focused services, including opportunities in arts, music, sports, and civic engagement. These services are designed to foster creativity, personal development, and community involvement. The City also provides drop-in spaces where teens can socialize, study, and access mental and behavioral health services. These programs have served many young residents to date, and the City recognizes the importance of continuously adapting and refining services to better meet the needs of Redmond’s diverse youth.
