Mayor Angela Birney Joins the Greater Seattle Partners Board
REDMOND, WA - Last week Mayor Angela Birney became a board member of Greater Seattle Partners. This is a public-private partnership that focuses on regional economic development by attracting global businesses, facilitating cross-sectoral connections, and nurturing investment and trade opportunities in the greater Seattle region.
“This partnership will be instrumental in further connecting our city to the greater region,” said Mayor Birney. “I am grateful to serve on the board and look forward to showcasing our economic strength as part of the global marketing for Puget Sound and attracting innovative businesses to grow and thrive in Redmond.”
This board position advances the City’s Economic Development Strategic Plan, which was adopted in July 2024. Specifically, Redmond intends to work with regional, state, and city partners to proactively promote the City as an attractive place to do business, and this relationship with Greater Seattle Partners will help implement this work. This partnership will also help Redmond recruit businesses to strengthen the City’s commercial, cultural, and district identities.
The City is well known as a center of technology and the location for a number of nationally known high-tech companies. Among these are Microsoft, Nintendo of America, Amazon Kuiper, Meta, Astronics, and Stryker. In 2023, Mayor Birney proclaimed the Redmond Space District because of the presence of leading space companies and innovation in Redmond.
