City of Redmond Transitions Teen Programs from Old Fire House

REDMOND, WA - Teen programs currently housed at the Old Fire House Teen Center are transitioning to the Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village and other city facilities. The transition will begin later this month, and all programs are expected to be operational in their new locations by late April.

The decision to relocate programming follows comprehensive facility assessments of the Old Fire House Teen Center. The building served the community well for 72 years but now faces substantial long-term structural challenges that go beyond routine maintenance. This proactive relocation allows the City to continue providing teen services while the community considers options for the building's future.

"Relocating teen programs to other City facilities will allow us to safely maintain the same level of service and could create future opportunities for expanded services," said Mayor Angela Birney. "While we engage in a thoughtful process with City Council and the community about the future of the Old Fire House Teen Center, we will continue to recognize the significance of this space to generations of Redmond residents and remain committed to honoring that legacy."

The future of the Old Fire House Teen Center building will be determined through a public process with City Council. This will include opportunities for community input and will honor the building's importance to the community.

For more information on the transition, visit redmond.gov/TeenServices. Beginning in April, the City will initiate a separate comprehensive engagement process with teens and the community to assess and enhance teen services across Redmond. Community members can visit the above webpage to learn more and submit questions or comments about the transition.
