City Councilmember Melissa Stuart Appointed to Serve on a National League of Cities Committee
REDMOND, WA — Redmond City Councilmember Melissa Stuart was appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2025 Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources (EENR) Federal Advocacy Committee. Councilmember Stuart was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on sustainability, climate change, community resilience, water infrastructure, solid waste management, and more. The appointment was announced by NLC President Steve Patterson, Mayor of Athens, Ohio.
“Redmond residents consistently rate climate readiness and environmental conservation among their highest priorities,” said Stuart. “As one of the only committee members from the Pacific Northwest, I look forward to representing and protecting our values.”
As a member of NLC’s EENR Committee, Councilmember Stuart will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities, towns, and villages before Congress, with the administration and at home in Redmond, Washington.
“NLC’s federal advocacy committees are vital for uplifting the voices and needs of America’s 19,000 cities, towns, and villages to decision-makers in Washington,” said National League of Cities President Steve Patterson, Mayor of Athens, Ohio. “I am excited to work with Councilmember Stuart and look forward to supporting her vision and leadership as she serves on the Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Committee this year and helps grow the partnership between local and federal leaders.”
This year’s EENR will be led by Chair Katrina Thompson, Mayor, Village of Broadview, Illinois; Vice Chair Mila Besich, Mayor, Town of Superior, Arizona; and Vice Chair Abbie Kamin, Councilmember, City of Houston, Texas.
