Affirming Our Commitment to a Welcoming Community

Redmond is a welcoming city, with a strong commitment to cultivating an inclusive community, where everyone feels valued, supported, and connected. City staff are closely monitoring any policy changes with the new administration and are actively working to provide accurate information, so that everyone—regardless of immigration status, race, or gender identity—can continue to access government services. The City encourages you to know your rights and take advantage of the protections in place for the immigrant community at both the state and local levels.

Learn How Fire Department Staffing Models Are Enhanced

As we start the new year, the Redmond Fire Department is proud to announce the launch of full-time cross-staffing of its aid car and fire engine at Station 17. This enhanced staffing model reflects Mayor Birney's and City Council's unwavering commitment to the health and safety of the communities we serve. Their leadership enables us to significantly improve fire suppression and rescue capabilities across the City.

The Redmond 2050 Comprehensive Plan update, includes a new chapter focused on climate resilience. This element includes polices to support community members at risk for environmental and climate change impacts. These polices ensure that city services, infrastructure, and community members are resilient to climate impacts (FW-CR-2):

  • Integrate local climate impact risk assessment findings and climate projections into hazard mitigation planning and other strategic plans (CR-11)
  • Develop strategies in collaboration with regional partners that could include coordinate efforts, such as cooling centers, early warning systems, development regulations, and energy grid resilience. (CR-13)
  • Develop and maintain a wildfire project plan (CR-16)
  • Install infrastructure in areas with uncontrolled runoff to improve flow control and water quality (CR-21)
