See How Redmond is Implementing Accessibility Improvements

The Redmond 2050 Comprehensive Plan update advances equity and inclusion so that people of all ages, cultures, and abilities feel a sense of belonging in all spaces, activities, and services throughout the City. For example, community feedback led to the following updates that improve opportunities and foster independence:

  • Ensuring ADA access to sites with little or no parking.
  • Establishing parking garage design standards that allow access for ADA vans.
  • Funding an inclusive wayfinding program for city parks and buildings.
  • Providing incentives for new developments to include accessible housing, sensory spaces, disability employment programs, adult changing rooms, and other accessibility and inclusion features and programs.

Learn About New Right of Way Use Fees

Learn About New Right of Way Use Fees

A new fee system begins in January for extended closures of public right of way (ROW) by private businesses such as construction. Previously, the City allowed the closure of public right of way for the benefit of private businesses without charging a use fee or excise tax. Private use of ROW for construction activity or outdoor dining limits public access and enjoyment of sidewalks, landscapes, bike lanes, parking, and travel lanes. To balance the needs of private businesses with the needs of the community, the City will collect a ROW use fee and the state-required excise tax for extended closures of the public right of way.
