A Message

from the Mayor

My deepest thanks to each of you for your resilience and understanding as we continue to recover from the recent windstorm-related power outages and its aftermath. While some of our community members are still without power due to significant tree falls and power lines impacted, our partners at Puget Sound Energy (PSE) are working tirelessly to restore services and provide support where needed. Your cooperation during this challenging time has been invaluable.

Here are some important updates for the community:

City Facilities Are Open for Warming: You can visit City Hall (15670 NE 85th St Redmond, WA 98052), Redmond Senior & Community Center (8703 160th Ave NE Redmond, WA 98052), and Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village (6505 176th Ave NE Redmond, WA 98052) during normal business hours for a safe and warm space if you need it.

Parks Closed: All parks remain closed for safety reasons. Please avoid any downed trees or play equipment until they are assessed and cleared.

Structural Damage Assessments: Staff are inspecting structures and homes for damage. If you are at home, staff will speak with you in person. If you return to your home and there is a tag on your front door, it will provide information about the condition of the structure. You will likely need to secure repairs directed by a licensed engineer. Staff are available to assist you with this process. Please contact the Permit Center at 425-556-2473 or find information online.

Storm Debris Drop-Off Locations: King County is offering free debris drop-offs at designated locations. Factoria and Shoreline Transfer Stations are waiving fees on yard waste and woody debris disposal to help customers clean up from the storm. Read King County's bulletin to learn more.

WM will collect extra storm debris from Redmond residents at a cost of $4.43 per 32-gallon unit. Place extra yard debris next to your cart and WM will collect it on their regular schedule. Find more information about how to place extra units for collection.

Current Road Closures (as of Monday Nov. 25, 2024, at 3:25 p.m.): Please be aware of the following road closures due to storm damage:

  • NE 36th St – one lane closed due to trees on power lines.
  • NE 24th St 175th Ave NE – 180th Ave NE closed due to communications line repairs.

Please Support Our Local Businesses: Many of our local businesses, particularly restaurants, have been severely impacted by extended power outages and food spoilage. I encourage you to shop small and support these businesses as they work to recover. Your patronage makes a significant difference in their ability to bounce back.

How to Recover: The first place to start is with your own insurance company for assistance. If you've experienced food loss due to the power outage, you may be eligible for reimbursement (up to $500 for food loss).

If your property (private and business) has been damaged in this storm, you may qualify for property tax relief. Find more information and how to apply on King County’s website.

Stay Informed: As we learn more, the City will share updated information through City eNews and on social media. Be sure to subscribe to City eNews and follow us on Facebook, X, and Instagram. You can also get the latest information on storm cleanup and recovery on our website.

Thank you again to our community, city staff, and community partners for your continued support and patience.

Warm regards,
Mayor Birney
