Redmond City Council Adopts 2025 – 2026 Budget
REDMOND, WA - On Tuesday, Nov. 19, Redmond City Council adopted the Mayor’s proposed 2025 - 2026 biennial budget at the regular business meeting of the City Council by a vote of five to one. Over the last several weeks, Council reviewed and discussed the draft budget and held multiple public hearings ahead of the final budget adoption.
“I am excited to present this final budget to Redmond. City staff, Council, and our residents worked hard to advance our community priorities.,” said Redmond Mayor Angela Birney. “With this budget, we’ll be able to strengthen our investments in housing and social services, sustainability, and economic development.”
Some highlights of this budget include:
- Investing additional resources in a comprehensive community response program that provides behavioral health and human services.
- Implementing maintenance and safety operations for light rail.
- Protecting the environment by advancing the City's decarbonization, e-mobility, and green building efforts.
- Increasing the investment in public safety equipment and resources to support the Vision Zero initiative.
- Welcoming the 2026 FIFA World Cup to Redmond and the Puget Sound Region.
- Promoting respect, equity, diversity, and inclusion with real-time language translation services and communication resources.
“I am thrilled that our Council has adopted a 2025 - 2026 biennial budget that reflects community needs and feedback gathered throughout this year,” said City Council President Vanessa Kritzer. “We believe adopting a budget is more than just a financial decision—it's a commitment to our community's values, priorities, and a sustainable future for all."
Mayor Birney provided an introduction and an overview to the preliminary budget in a letter and executive summary. The full preliminary budget can be viewed at redmond.gov/Budget, and the final adopted budget document will also be available on this page in the first quarter of 2025.
The City appreciates the community feedback at every step of the budget process. In addition to four public hearings, items from the audience, and emails, the City heard from residents in an online questionnaire and in person at city events.
Redmond used the Budgeting by Priorities process again this year to form the City’s biennial budget. This process identifies the community’s highest priority services. The 2025 - 2026 budget continues to advance the values of our community distilled in four budget priorities confirmed by the community annually since 2020:
- A healthy and sustainableenvironment that supports an active community.
- A safe and resilientcommunity where all people feel safe.
