City Seeks a Youth Advocate for the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission
Volunteer to help guide the future of Redmond's Parks, Recreation, and Trails
REDMOND, WA - The City of Redmond is looking for interested high school students who live in Redmond to fill one youth advocate vacancy on the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission. Students between the ages of 14 and 18 who live in the 98052 zip code are encouraged to apply for this one-year term position, with the opportunity to renew for a second one-year term. The City is committed to having a commission that reflects the diversity of the community and welcomes applications from any Redmond teen interested in the future of parks, recreation, and trails.
The Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission is a way for students to learn more about local government and public policies and offers opportunities to participate in other city events and engage with community members. The City values teen leaders who can connect with a broad spectrum of parks, community centers, and trails users, and represent community members’ interests at meetings with City Council and the commission.
Youth Advocates can expect to advise staff and City Council on projects like:
- Volunteer opportunity coordination
- Wayfinding in City of Redmond trails
- Recreational programming strategies
- Planning and capital projects for parks and trails
Youth advocates must attend the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission meetings, held at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. Meetings are hybrid, with an in-person option preferred at Redmond City Hall.
To learn more and apply to the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission, contact Senior Parks Planner Cameron Zapata at czapata@redmond.gov or visit redmond.gov/ParksTrailsCommission. Interested community members are encouraged to apply by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9.
