Pop-Up Dog Parks to Return to Redmond
REDMOND, WA - The Luke McRedmond pop-up dog park is open, and a second location will open at Hartman Park, in the coming weeks. These off-leash areas were selected as the preferred locations based on community feedback.
“We loved seeing community members gather and play outdoors with their furry family members last year,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “My dog Buttons and I cannot wait to reconnect with the friends we made at Luke McRedmond and for all the new ones we’ll make at Hartman Park.”
Last year’s location at Luke McRedmond was the City’s first pop-up dog park and was in response to the growing demand for spaces for pets and their owners to exercise and socialize with others. Dog parks were originally identified as a mid-term priority in the 2017 Parks, Arts, Recreation, Culture, and Conservation (PARCC) Plan. They were identified as a high-priority need by the community and city leadership and continued to rise as a priority with the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission during the 2022 budget process. Staff evaluated numerous sites and partnered with the commission to seek community feedback throughout the summer of 2022 and collected feedback through questionnaires during the 2023 pop-up at Luke McRedmond Park.
The off-leash area in both pop-up locations will be fenced, have a small and large dog area, and will receive regular maintenance and trash pickup. The parks will be open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week. Pets other than dogs are prohibited, and there is a limit of two dogs per handler. Dogs must be leashed when entering or exiting the off-leash area, and dogs must be licensed and current on vaccinations. Visitors are required to clean up and properly dispose of their pet’s waste.
The dog park at Luke McRedmond will remain open through September and Hartman Park will remain open through August, allowing the City to test different potential locations and needs for a more permanent off-leash dog area in Redmond. Visitors to the dog park can report issues using the City's Q-Alert system, and provide feedback on this and future off-leash areas through an online questionnaire.
