Redmond Looks to Take on Supportive Housing Project

REDMOND, WA –The City of Redmond has secured a partnership with Plymouth Housing and A Regional Coalition for Housing (ARCH) on a living space for those who are disabled and housing insecure.

The property transfer, which is supported by the Mayor’s Office and aims to foster the development of 100 safe, secure, and dignified housing units at a publicly owned property at 16725 Cleveland Street in Redmond, was approved by City Council last night.

“This is one of the City’s top priorities and we believe every person in our community has a right to affordable housing,” said Redmond Mayor Angela Birney. “We’re encouraged that this project has the opportunity to help those who need it and appreciate the support of everyone who has helped to make this happen.”

“Nearly every community in Washington is facing a housing or homelessness crisis,” said Gov. Jay Inslee. “The only way forward is for every city to lean in together in providing housing and services. The city of Redmond is setting a great example by stepping up to ensure we don’t lose a 100-bed project.”

“I want to congratulate Mayor Birney and the Redmond City Council for taking this bold step forward towards securing more affordable housing in King County”, said King County Executive Dow Constantine. “King County is proud to partner with Redmond to make this project a reality.”

“If we are to solve our regional housing crisis, every jurisdiction in King County will have to do our part and work together,” said King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci. “The City of Redmond and the Redmond community are rising to the challenge by making this important project a reality. With this action, they are showing the way for all of us to live up to our values and provide housing for all.”

“Redmond is doing tremendous work to create more affordable housing options to address our region’s homelessness crisis,” said Karen Lee, CEO of Plymouth Housing. “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the city to bring 100 permanent supportive homes to the residents of Redmond. We look forward to working with the Mayor, Council, Redmond city staff, and individual citizens to ensure this building will add value to the community for years to come.”

Next steps in the process include building design changes to adapt the Plymouth project to the Redmond site, community engagement for completion of the operational agreement, public safety and security plan, and community relations plan.
