Mayor Birney Joins Sound Transit Board of Directors

Last week, Mayor Birney was confirmed by the King County Council to the Sound Transit Board of Directors, along with King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay and Seattle City Councilmember Dan Strauss. She will represent the East King County subarea, filling the seat of former Kenmore Mayor and Councilmember Dave Baker for a four-year term. Zahilay will represent the North King County subarea, filling the seat of former King County Councilmember Joe McDermott, and Strauss will also represent North King County, filling the seat of former Seattle City Councilmember Debra Juarez. King County Executive Dow Constantine, who appointed the three new representatives, shared, “In proposing these individuals for appointment to the Sound Transit Board, I am ensuring that each subarea within King County’s portion of the Sound Transit district is represented by local and countywide elected officials, each of whom demonstrates a strong understanding of the significant role that mass transit infrastructure plays in getting people moving and combatting climate change.”
