Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. 

In observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) holiday, City of Redmond facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15. Fire, Police, and other critical services will remain fully operational. Mayor Birney has proclaimed Jan. 15, as Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service in the City of Redmond. The day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

Ching-In Chen

Meet Redmond’s New Poet Laureate

Redmond City Council appointed Ching-In Chen as Redmond’s new poet laureate for 2024-25. Chen was selected through a robust process that included applying to an open call, a selection panel of poets and Arts and Culture commissioners, and individual interviews by the selection panel, Mayor Angela Birney, and the City Council. Chen is a lifelong educator, community organizer, poet, and the author of The Heart's Traffic (Arktoi/Red Hen Press, 2009) and recombinant (Kelsey Street Press, 2017).

Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee

Help Guide Our Sustainability Efforts

The City of Redmond is recruiting applicants to fill one youth advocate position on the Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee. Community members residing or going to school within the 98052 zip code who have an interest in Redmond sustainability programs are encouraged to apply. The committee advises city staff on Environmental Sustainability Action Plan implementation efforts.
