City Seeks Volunteer Arts and Culture Commissioner

REDMOND, WA - The City of Redmond is seeking applicants for one available seat on its Arts and Culture Commission. The current vacancy on the commission is open to individuals who either live or work inside Redmond city limits with a 98052 zip code or live in unincorporated King County with a 98053 zip code. The City is committed to having a commission that reflects the community’s diverse perspectives and encourages those with a passion for arts and culture to apply.

The Arts and Culture Commission continues to enhance the quality of life in Redmond by advising staff and the City Council on public programs that build community, celebrate diversity, and enhance the vitality and identity of Redmond through performing, visual, and participatory arts. The current work plan for the commission includes advising staff and the City Council on growing the arts in Redmond through the Poet Laureate Program, the Cultural Arts Grant Program, the Downtown Redmond Art Walk, and more. The commission will also provide recommendations on several upcoming public art projects in Redmond.

Arts and Culture Commission meetings are mandatory for all members and are held in person at Redmond City Hall with an option to join virtually via Microsoft Teams on the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. In addition to monthly meetings, commissioners participate on special committees and attend public meetings and events. They cultivate community involvement around Parks and Recreation Department projects and programs and occasionally attend City Council and other commission meetings. The commission also interfaces with the broader community so that it can represent community members’ interests to the City Council. All board and commission members are volunteers and serve three-year terms.

Learn more about the commission or apply by visiting redmond.gov/Commissions. There is no deadline, but interested individuals are encouraged to apply by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024. The position will remain open until filled.
