Eastside Welcoming Week

Celebrate Welcoming Week

Mayor Birney has again joined the mayors of Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, and Sammamish in proclaiming Sept. 8-17, 2023, as Eastside Welcoming Week. This is in alignment with the nationwide celebration of our country’s diverse cultures and an opportunity for communities to showcase their values through events that foster connections, collaboration, and belonging for all. Many events are planned in Redmond and across the Eastside to bring people together to build strong connections and affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places.

Asphalt Art

Learn About Redmond’s New Asphalt Art

Last week, the City installed its second asphalt art piece in Downtown Redmond, bringing visibility to and symbolizing Redmond’s support of the LGBTQIA+ community. The rainbow crosswalk is an artistic interpretation of the Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag and is located at the crosswalk mid-block on Cleveland Street to welcome anyone living, working, or visiting Redmond into Downtown Park and all of the City’s public spaces.

Be Prepared for Floods

Be Prepared for Floodplain Hazards

Redmond property owners in the City’s floodplain areas will receive a 25% discount on flood insurance issued through the National Flood Insurance Program thanks to the federal recognition of the City’s floodplain management. Redmond again earned a class five rating from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Community Rating System (CRS) by implementing policies and programs that protect property from the dangers of flooding.
