Redmond Police Remind Everyone to Follow Important School Zone Safety Tips
REDMOND, WA - Students are heading back to school on Tuesday, Sept. 5. More buses will be on the roads, and more students will be walking and riding bikes near school zones.
Redmond Police Department reminds drivers to slow down and pay extra attention when kids are present around schools, especially right before and after school. When driving behind a bus, maintain a greater following distance than driving behind a car to allow more time to stop once the yellow lights start flashing.
Obey reduced speed limits and flashing lights near schools. Remember, fines are doubled in school zones. Please slow down and yield to people crossing mid-street, at crosswalks, or at intersections. Always follow directions from crossing guards and safety patrols.
Make sure to follow school procedures for dropping off students. When parking, keep crosswalks, bus stops, and driveways clear.
Plan for extra commute time on school days to allow for congested roadways and buses stopping to load or unload children. Lastly, pay close attention to the road by eliminating all distractions like cell phones and navigation systems.
Help keep everyone safe this school year by following these important safety tips.
