Disability Month

Honoring Disability Pride Month

July is recognized as Disability Pride Month, and it is an opportunity to honor the history, experiences, struggles, and achievements, of the disability community, including the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. Without Judy Heumann, ADA would not exist. Regarded as “the mother” of the Disability Rights Movement, she stated, "Disability only becomes a tragedy when society fails to provide the things we need to lead our lives — job opportunities or barrier-free buildings, for example."
