Chill Out in Hot Weather

Chill Out and Be Safe in Hot Weather This Week

Enjoy a few ways to stay cool in Redmond.

  • Visit the splash pads at Grass Lawn Park and Downtown Park.
  • Take a swim at Idylwood Park. The beach is open but without lifeguards this summer, so please play safely in and around the water by knowing the conditions, wearing a lifejacket, staying close to shore, and never swimming alone.
  • Cool off at Redmond City Hall from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and enjoy air conditioning and a cold drink of water.

Visit the City’s weather webpage and follow @CityofRedmond on social media for more simple ways to keep cool and help others during these hot days.

Public Safety Levy Approved

Council Approves Resolution for New Public Safety Levy

At their July 19 business meeting, the Redmond City Council voted in support of adding a proposition to the November ballot. In addition to retaining and expanding police and fire staff, the levy would also fund alternative approaches to mental health and crisis intervention while connecting our community members with appropriate services.

Tree Penalties

City Increases Unauthorized Tree Removal Penalties

The Redmond community values trees and the environment. In support of Redmond’s aggressive tree canopy and protection goals requested by the community, the City Council approved a new fine structure and penalty amount for unauthorized tree removal on July 18. Penalties are based upon appraised tree value per industry standard, and fines are tripled for tree removal contractors.

New Tenant Protections

Council Passes New Tenant Protections

This action created a new chapter 9.54 of the Redmond Municipal Code to Adopted Tenant Protections, effective on July 30. The ordinance increases notification for rent increases, caps late fees, caps move-in fees and deposits, authorizes tenant payment plans, and provides for severability, including establishing an effective date.
