Redmond, WA – The City of Redmond invites the community to attend one of three virtual workshops to provide input on the benefit of Redmond’s Parks and Recreation programs and services. The virtual workshops will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 30, and involve small-group discussions led by a facilitator. Participants will be asked to examine the current programs and services provided by the City’s Parks and Recreation Department and will provide input on the community benefit versus individual benefits of each program.
The community’s input will inform City staff’s work in developing an updated policy to present to City Council for adoption in spring 2022. This work is connected to the City’s Cost of Service Methodology, which was adopted in 2018.
“A cost recovery policy for Parks and Recreation programs and services is important to ensure we are good stewards of public funds and are allocating resources appropriately,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “By having a clear understanding of who is benefitting from a particular program, it allows fees to be established for our services that are based on benefits to the community.”
The City is utilizing the services of GreenPlay, a nationally renowned parks and recreation management consulting firm, to assist in developing a cost recovery philosophy and policy based on the community’s values for recreation programs and services.
