Redmond Police Department Begins Administrative Review of September 2020 Officer-Involved Shooting

July 7, 2021

Redmond, WA - The King County Sheriff’s Office has informed the City of Redmond that it has concluded its investigation of an officer-involved shooting that occurred in September 2020. The shooting resulted in the death of Andrea Churna, 39. The investigation has now been forwarded to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.

The Redmond Police Department will now begin its own administrative investigation into the incident. An administrative investigation is conducted to determine if disciplinary actions, policy changes, or training decisions will be made.  As a part of that administrative investigation, Redmond Police Chief Darrell Lowe may consult with a scientific institute that specializes in analyzing use-of-force and advising police agencies on deadly force incidents.

A report of the investigation was first sent to the King County Prosecutor in January 2021 and supplemental investigative reviews have been ongoing. The City of Redmond will provide updates on this investigation as they become available.
