Redmond Police honor recently retired K-9 Remy's service to the City

REDMOND, Wash. - The Redmond Police Department is honoring K-9 Officer Dan Smith and K-9 Remy, who served our community with distinction, honor and integrity for the past 6.5 years.
K-9 Remy, an 8-year-old German Shepherd, is now enjoying his hard-earned retirement and a life of leisure with the sole responsibility of being the Smith family’s beloved pet.
K-9 Remy and Officer Smith have had a distinguished career as RPD’s only K-9 team since 2014. During this time, the duo assisted with the seizure of about $500,000 in narcotics and made 94 suspect captures. Remy was also named “Top Dog” at the Washington State Police Canine Association Advanced Handler Course in 2016.
In addition to keeping our community safe, K-9 Remy and Officer Smith have been our most popular team over the years at many community gatherings. They are always the biggest draw at Derby Days, National Night Out, school visits and numerous other events. Remy is incredibly patient with children and happily received petting and ear scratches from thousands of kids and adults over the years.
Officer Smith, who has been with RPD since 2008, is continuing his career with Redmond Police as a patrol officer. He has also been mentoring our incoming K-9 team as they have been training to take over the reins.
We will greatly miss having K-9 Remy on the RPD team. We wish him a long, happy retirement with his family enjoying his favorite treats: apples, strawberries and (oddly) broccoli.
We are deeply thankful to Officer Smith and Remy for their years of dedicated teamwork as our K-9 unit.
