Redmond, WA – The City of Redmond invites community members to learn more about and provide input regarding the city’s cable television franchise contract renewals of Comcast Cable Communications, LLC, (Comcast) and Frontier Cable Communications (Frontier). We are seeking input regarding the next phase of the franchise renewal project. Please join us on February 19, 2020, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Redmond City Hall, 15670 NE 85 Street, Redmond, WA 98052. In addition to the February 19 event, an online questionnaire is available through February 17, 2020, at https://www.letsconnectredmond.com/Cable-Franchises

The purpose of the town hall meeting at City Hall, and the online questionnaire, is to share progress on the cable renewal projects and hear residents’ thoughts regarding this phase of the project. This phase includes seeking public input regarding the past performance of Comcast and Frontier and the current and future community needs and interests. The City is gathering feedback from many stakeholders, including residents, City staff, Lake Washington School District, the King County Library-Redmond location, businesses, and non-profit organizations.

“The cable franchise contract renewals are important to the future of Redmond’s communication infrastructure, and we want to involve the community in this process,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “Gathering public feedback is vital to making informed decisions, and we welcome the community’s input.”

Community input will help inform the City in the process of developing and negotiating renewed cable franchise contract with Comcast and Frontier while taking into account the past performance of both providers and the needs and interests of the community. Cable franchise contracts last for seven years. Comcast and Frontier currently have cable franchise contracts with the City of Redmond.

Frontier is currently in the process of selling its northwest cable systems. The City's contract renewal process accounts for this transfer of control. The change in ownership will not disrupt service levels, rates, or contracts for current Frontier customers.
