Redmond, WA – The Redmond Arts & Culture Commission is looking for applications from Redmond residents who are interested in developing and supporting the arts. Positions are open for both arts commissioners, as well as youth advocates. The Arts & Culture Commission enhances the quality of life in Redmond by advising staff and City Council on public programs that build community, celebrate diversity, and enhance the vitality and identity of Redmond through performing, visual, and participatory arts.

The City of Redmond is recruiting a new volunteer member for the Arts and Culture Commission to begin in January 2020. This vacant position is open to Redmond residents residing within city limits (98052 zip code) or living in unincorporated King County on property with a Redmond postal address or whose main employment is with a business located within the Redmond City limits. Arts and Culture Commissioners meet on the second Thursday of every month and serve three-year terms. In addition to monthly meetings, Commissioners participate on special committees, attend public meetings and events, as well as occasionally attend City Council and other commission meetings.

The current work program for the Commission includes advising staff and City Council on growing the arts in Redmond through the Artist-in-Residence program, Poet Laureate program, Moving Art Center programs, So Bazaar Night Market, the Arts Season grant program, and more. The Commission will also provide recommendations on some upcoming public art projects including several City and regional transportation projects in Redmond.

Additionally, the Arts & Culture Commission has openings for up to two Youth Advocates. The Youth Advocates need to be between the ages of 16 and 19 and want to share their views about what’s important to Redmond’s youth regarding art in the community.
