Celebrate Green Redmond Day by Planting Trees

Redmond, WA – Bring your friends and families for a fun morning of restoration on Green Redmond Day, on Saturday, October 26. Planting events will be held at numerous park sites from 9 a.m. – noon. Advanced registration at www.greenredmond.org is strongly encouraged as some sites have limited space.
The Green Redmond Partnership recently celebrated ten years of forest stewardship, and the accomplishments of volunteers are visible throughout Redmond’s forested parkland. Green Redmond volunteers have removed countless non-native, invasive plants, and planted over 35,000 native trees and shrubs, making a difference for our native ecosystems and the Redmond community. Over 400 acres of forested parkland are now in active management due to the hard, consistent work of dedicated volunteers.
Green Cities throughout the region will be holding planting events in October and November. Redmond is one partner in a larger, regional effort that currently includes 13 cities in the Puget Sound area. These cities are working to restore and maintain publicly-owned urban natural areas and forests.
“Volunteer work of Redmond residents has driven the success of this restoration program,” said Mayor John Marchione. “Their work will continue to positively impact the environment, increase wildlife habitat and create future forests for the Redmond community to enjoy.”
Everyone is encouraged to participate. No experience is necessary, and tools are provided along with instruction on how to plant trees to ensure a long and healthy life. This event is an excellent learning experience for kids and aspiring gardeners alike.
