Redmond, WA – The Buoyant pavilion at Redmond’s Downtown Park received merit honors in the landscape category for the seventh annual CODA Awards. The awards are presented by CODAworx, Collaboration of Design + Art, an international hub organization for commissioned artwork in interior, architectural, and public spaces. This year, the CODA Awards received 435 entries from 26 countries around the world.

Buoyant, by Vancouver-based artist Jill Anholt, serves as a signature public art piece, a functional pavilion structure, and a platform for performance and digital projection. It includes a water wall as a canvas for projected digital art. Buoyant, like the rest of the park, is inspired by Redmond’s natural landscape and the City’s identity as an innovative digital technology hub. The project was a collaboration of the City of Redmond with Jill Anholt Studios, PFS Studio, Arup Structural Engineering and Lighting Design, and Fabrication Specialties Ltd.

Downtown Park opened in September 2018 and has quickly become a popular gathering spot and events venue. This year it hosted Redmond’s So Bazaar night market, World Whiskey Day, and a Cinco de Mayo celebration.

“Downtown Park is a place where the neighborhood and the City come together as a community. Great parks and great public art contribute to Redmond’s high quality of life,” said Mayor John Marchione. “Buoyant winning this award is a testament to the excellent work of the artist, architects, contractors, and all the City staff involved.”

Merit winners were selected by a panel of 18 expert jurors as exemplifying the best of what can happen when artists and design professionals collaborate to create artful spaces. Award winners were featured in the August edition of Interior Design Magazine, on CODAworx.com, and through 11 partner organizations.
