Redmond, WA – On May 21, 2019, Redmond City Council approved the naming of the full-sized baseball field at Hartman Park to “Les Dow Field” in honor of Mr. Dow who passed away in August 2018.

The community is invited to attend a field naming ceremony on Friday, July 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Hartman Park as part of the Mickey Mantle State Tournament. There will be a game following the short ceremony and a sign unveiling.

“The City of Redmond is proud to honor Les and the Dow family by recognizing their contributions and achievements in the community with the naming of Les Dow Field,” said Mayor John Marchione. “This is a special event for the Dow family and the entire community is invited to come out on July 19 to celebrate Les in the field naming ceremony.”

Baseball was a driving force in Les and his wife Erin’s lives. Les spent 46 years as a coach, sponsor, and administrator in the Redmond baseball community. He was instrumental in many improvement projects at Hartman Park and made substantial impacts through his volunteer work.

Les coached 1,379 boys, and one girl over that time. Of these players, 250 participated at the college level, many played in the minor leagues, and 12 players advanced into Major League Baseball. Many of the players Les coached continue to give back by becoming coaches themselves, including his three children Dan, Chrissy, and Mark.

More information about the event can be found at www.redmond.gov/calendar.
