Redmond, WA – The annual Derby Days summer festival begins Friday evening, July 12 and runs all-day Saturday, July 13 at Redmond City Hall campus. The theme this year, “Game On!,” invites the entire community and surrounding areas to challenge their friends and neighbors to friendly competition in the spirit of community building. New this year will be an escape room hosted by Conundroom Real Escape Rooms of Redmond, minute-to-win-it style games for kids, and a game arcade for the whole family!
“Derby Days kicks off summer in a unique way,” said Mayor John Marchione. “This festival connects Redmond’s neighbors and welcomes everyone to play, compete and enjoy the diverse community that many of us call home. We are proud to host this event and we invite everyone to come out to this year’s Derby Days celebration.”
Derby Days begins Friday night with the family-friendly Derby Dash 5K Walk/Run sponsored by Sparclaine Regenerative Medicine and a great music lineup on the main stage. Grab dinner from over 15 food vendors, listen to the regionally-acclaimed musical group, The Black Tones, enjoy the Derby Days Beer and Wine Garden, or hop on an opening night carnival ride.
Saturday kicks off with a pancake breakfast at the Redmond Fire Department (RFD) Fire Station 11. Doors open at 8:00 a.m. and a suggested $5 donation benefits the RFD Benevolent Fund. Immediately following breakfast, bring the kids to sign up for the Ben Franklin Kids’ Parade. Since its start in 1940, Redmond’s children have decorated their bikes and circled the block, making way for the Grand Parade – a cherished tradition not to be missed! The Kids’ Parade sign-in begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Opportunity Building parking lot at 8383 158th Ave., with a Redmond Police officer leading the kids on their ceremonial lap at 10:00 a.m. Online registration ahead of time is recommended.
After the Kids’ Parade, find your seats for the Go Redmond Grand Parade, featuring local and regional groups. Stick around to watch the youth & adult bicycle criterium races and back by popular demand, the Element Cycle Esk8 Races. Derby Days is proud to have the longest-running competitive bicycle race in the United States!
Continue into the afternoon with a lively main stage lineup including music cultivated in partnership with Northwest Folklife Festival. Don’t forget to take a ride at the Northwest Carnival and grab a friend to sign up for the Parks and Recreation Cornhole Tournament sponsored by The Bond Marymoor. Other festivities include the Redmond Arts Festival at the Redmond Town Center and plenty of free kid’s activities in the BECU Kids Zone located this year in front of City Hall.
As the sun sets, bring a blanket and settle in on the grass for critically-acclaimed musical artists Sera Cahoone and then Dawn North. Following Dawn North, enjoy the Derby Days finale, a spectacular fireworks display that will close out the weekend at 10:00 p.m.
Ample parking is available at the City Hall Parking Garage and Redmond Town Center.
